I’ve been watching a show called Songland. will.i.am was the guest artist; all the contestant-songwriters were hoping that he would choose their song to be on the next Black Eyed Peas album. A pattern emerged from two of the three songs pitched to him: they expressed the times we’re in – the stress of a chaotic, uncertain, hate-tinged time – and asked instead, can we be nice, can we open our hearts to each other. And then over on America’s Got Talent, Howie’s golden buzzer went to a young man who wrote a song in the same vein.

Keep this in mind: 70 percent of us are looking for compassionate connection, for ease, for empathy, as we grocery shop, go to work, take our kids to play soccer, say hello to our neighbor. Watch for those moments – they are there. Be the creator. Amplify them.

Be Nice was the song that will become the single, but he chose all three to be on the album:
